Back Pain Treatment is available at our Southern California clinics - Long Beach, Alhambra, Riverside, and City of Industry.
The spine is a complex, weight-bearing structure that supports your entire body, protects the spinal cord, and allows movement in multiple directions. Its intricate combination of bones, discs, ligaments, nerves, and muscles makes it essential for everyday function but also highly vulnerable to injury, degeneration, and strain.
Back pain can arise from many different sources, including the intervertebral discs, facet joints, spinal nerves, muscles, ligaments, or even the sacroiliac joints. In some cases, pain felt in the back originates elsewhere, such as the hips, kidneys, or abdominal organs, which makes an accurate diagnosis critical. At Integrative Sports & Spine, we carefully evaluate each patient through a detailed medical history, physical and neurological exams, and imaging when needed to pinpoint the exact structures causing pain.
Once the source is identified, we create a personalized treatment plan that may include anti-inflammatory injections, regenerative therapies like platelet-rich plasma or stem cell therapy, and guided rehabilitation to restore strength and function. Our approach is designed to relieve pain, improve mobility, and protect your joints for long-term health, helping patients return to daily activities with confidence and comfort.

We pinpoint the exact spinal structures causing your pain, ensuring treatments are targeted, effective, and based on a clear understanding of your condition.
The majority of back pain conditions including herniated discs, spinal stenosis, and degenerative joint disease respond well to minimally invasive, non-surgical care, helping you avoid unnecessary surgery.
Targeted interventional treatments provide fast pain relief, breaking the cycle of pain and limited movement, and allowing you to engage in rehabilitation and restore daily function.
Our approach addresses all contributing pain generators such as discs, joints, nerves, and muscles while restoring strength, flexibility, and resilience to prevent future pain and preserve quality of life.
Lumbar Disc Injury and Herniation
Herniated or bulging discs in the lower back can compress spinal nerves, causing localized pain, leg pain, or sciatica. Our targeted injections including epidural steroid injections or regenerative therapies reduce inflammation, relieve nerve pressure, and restore mobility.
Facet Joint Pain
The small joints connecting vertebrae can become arthritic or inflamed, producing localized back pain or referred pain into the neck or legs. Facet joint injections and medial branch blocks target the exact joints causing discomfort for rapid, precise relief.
Muscle and Ligament Strain
Overuse, poor posture, or acute injury can strain spinal muscles and ligaments, resulting in tightness, spasms, and chronic discomfort. Trigger point injections combined with physical therapy reduce muscle tension, restore flexibility, and prevent recurrent pain.
Sacroiliac (SI) Joint Dysfunction
Dysfunction or inflammation of the SI joint often produces lower back, hip, or pelvic pain. SI joint injections relieve inflammation directly in the joint, improving stability, reducing pain, and enhancing mobility.
Post-Surgical or Chronic Back Pain
Persistent pain after spinal surgery, disc procedures, or chronic degenerative conditions can significantly limit function. Our interventional and regenerative injections reduce ongoing inflammation, interrupt pain signaling, and support long-term recovery..
Complex or Multi-Source Back Pain
Back pain often involves multiple structures such as discs, facet joints, ligaments, muscles, and nerves. Our comprehensive evaluation identifies each pain source, and precise, targeted injections are integrated into a broader care plan to restore spinal function, reduce pain, and improve quality of life.
Preparation Guidelines• Avoid applying heat or ice to the back before your appointment.
• Wear loose, comfortable clothing that provides easy access to your back ideally clothing that can be opened or lowered to expose the lumbar, thoracic, or cervical region as needed.
• Bring a complete list of all medications, supplements, and blood thinners you are currently taking.
• Notify your physician of any known allergies particularly to local anesthetics, corticosteroids, contrast dye, or NSAIDs.
• Bring any existing imaging of your spine like X-rays, MRI, or CT scans if available. The more recent and comprehensive the imaging, the more useful it will be for guiding treatment planning.
• Inform your physician of any prior spinal procedures or surgeries, including the specific procedures performed and their outcomes.
• Arrange for a ride home if your procedure involves sedation, significant nerve block, or imaging-guided deep spinal injection.
Initial Consultation Your care begins with a comprehensive one-on-one evaluation by one of our physicians. We take a complete and detailed history of your back pain including onset, character, distribution, aggravating and relieving factors, prior treatments and their outcomes, and the impact on your daily function, work, and quality of life. We perform a thorough physical examination of the spine and a neurological assessment of the lower extremities including reflexes, sensation, and muscle strength testing. All existing imaging is carefully reviewed, and where additional imaging is needed to clarify the diagnosis or guide treatment planning, appropriate referrals are made before treatment begins.
Comfort and Preparation • The treatment area is thoroughly cleaned, and a local anesthetic is applied to ensure your comfort.
• Your physician reviews your specific pain generators and confirms the exact locations to be treated.
Precision Treatment Delivery• Spinal injections such as epidural steroid injections, facet joint injections, medial branch nerve blocks, SI joint injections, trigger point injections, or PRP therapy are performed under real-time fluoroscopic guidance for accurate needle placement.
• Depending on your condition, one or more complementary procedures may be performed in the same session to address all relevant sources of pain.
Immediate Recovery• Most patients return home the same day shortly after the procedure.•
• Mild soreness, warmth, or a temporary increase in back discomfort in the first 24 to 48 hours following the injection is normal and typically resolves quickly.
• Apply ice to the treated area for 15 to 20 minutes every 2 to 3 hours to manage any post-procedure discomfort.
• Avoid prolonged sitting, standing, or walking on the day of your procedure.
• Do not drive if sedation or significant nerve block was administered, ensure transportation has been arranged.

First 72 Hours
• Avoid strenuous physical activity, heavy lifting, and movements that significantly aggravate your back pain.
• Keep the injection site clean and dry.
• Take prescribed medications only as directed by your physician.
• Contact our office promptly if you experience severe pain, fever, increasing neurological symptoms, or signs of infection following your procedure.

Long-Term Recovery
• Resume light activities gradually over the first one to two weeks based on your physician's specific guidance.
• Begin your prescribed physical therapy and spinal rehabilitation program as directed such as core stabilization, postural correction, lumbar flexibility, and movement retraining are essential components of lasting back pain relief and prevention of recurrence.
• Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments to monitor your progress and allow your physician to adjust your treatment plan based on your response.
• Full benefits from regenerative treatments such as PRP develop progressively over two to three months following the procedure.
• Implement recommended ergonomic, lifestyle, and activity modifications including workstation setup, sleeping position optimization, weight management, and safe lifting mechanics to reduce spinal loading and support long-term back health

Back Pain Experts You Can Trust
Our physicians specialize in evaluating and treating complex back conditions. We carefully assess the spine, surrounding muscles, and related structures to identify all sources of pain and design a treatment plan that addresses the root causes.
Precision-Guided Treatments
Delivering injections accurately is key for effective back pain relief. We use real-time imaging guidance to ensure medications and regenerative therapies reach the exact location of the problem, improving outcomes and minimizing risk.
Effective Non-Surgical Solutions
Most back pain can be managed without surgery. Our approach combines targeted injections, regenerative treatments, and structured rehabilitation to reduce pain, restore mobility, and improve function while avoiding invasive procedures whenever possible.
Comprehensive Recovery Approach
We focus on more than temporary relief. Our team provides personalized exercises, posture guidance, and long-term strategies to strengthen the spine, reduce future risk, and help patients return to the activities they love safely and confidently.

If your back pain lasts more than four weeks, limits daily activities, disrupts sleep, radiates to the legs, causes numbness or weakness, follows a major injury, or comes with bladder/bowel changes, professional evaluation is strongly recommended. Early treatment improves outcomes and reduces the risk of chronic pain.
Seek urgent care if your pain comes with fever, unexplained weight loss, history of cancer, significant trauma, progressive leg weakness, or bladder/bowel changes. These “red flags” may indicate serious underlying conditions.
Epidural steroid injections reduce inflammation around nerve roots and are best for disc herniation or spinal stenosis causing leg symptoms. Facet joint injections target the small joints between vertebrae and help with localized back pain from arthritis or joint dysfunction. Your physician will determine the right approach based on your diagnosis.
Typically, up to three injections are performed over six months, spaced 2–4 weeks apart. This minimizes cumulative steroid exposure. Your physician will tailor the number and timing based on your response and needs.
Not necessarily. If one injection doesn’t provide full relief, additional non-surgical options—such as alternative injections, radiofrequency ablation, regenerative therapies, or rehabilitation—can be explored. Surgery is only considered if all non-surgical options are exhausted or neurological deficits worsen.
Many patients notice improvement within days to two weeks after epidural steroid or nerve root injections. Facet joint or trigger point injections may provide more immediate relief. Regenerative treatments like PRP work progressively, with peak benefits usually occurring 2–3 months after treatment.
